It's believed that the land darting out from
Haeundae Beach used to be an island, but throughout the years, a sand-bridge was formed . This area is called
Dongbaek Island/Park. "Dongbaek" is Korean for "camillia trees" which cover the park. On top of a hill in the park, is a statue of Choi Chi-wan. He was a famous scholar from the Shillia Dynasty. There is also a rook with the word "
Haeundae" carved in Choi Chi-wan's own hand writing.
